France is back in the World Cup final for the first time since 2006. Twelve years after one of football’s most infamous headbutt, Samuel Umtiti used his head to score from a corner kick in the 51st minute and earn France a 1-0 victory over Belgium on Tuesday in the first of the all-European semifinals.
It’s all about mentality when it comes to the latter stages of a major tournament and Belgium lacked it. France did a better job collectively than that of Belgium, especially in the second half of the game and closed down the game brilliantly as well.
Belgium had their moments in the first half which they couldn’t capitalize, and France got better and better when the game went on.
Credit to Deschamps and France for setting up and executing the plan perfectly. Being little bit pragmatic can you win you big knockout games.
However, there is a crazy stat about Bayern Munich players and World Cup finals. Since 1982, Munich always had a player in the World Cup final.
