According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Champions League winners Real Madrid reportedly view Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen as a leading candidate to eventually replace Luka Modric.
Midfielder Luka Modric has been a key man for Real Madrid since he joined from Spurs in 2012 and he's won four Champions League titles with the Spanish giants. He was once quoted as one of the worst signigns of Los Blancos after his frist season and how things have changed ever since. It proves that you cannot be judgmental about a player after season at any club.
Real are unlikely to go for Eriksen this summer as they have other major issues to address in the transfer market — their wish-list is said to include a forward, a goalkeeper, a right back and a central defender. There were other reports of Eriksen being linked to Barcelona as well.
However, Eriksen is happy in London and not actively pushing to leave Spurs who are doing very well under Pochettino but when big clubs like Real Madrid comes calling, the Dane will definitely get tempted for a move away from London.
Luka Modric and Eriksen do not play the exact same role, with the former Spurs man tending to operate in deeper positions, more like a Regista where as Eriksen plays in a more advanced role in the midfield.
But Modric, in many ways, is a rare talent. Therefore, Real Madrid know they will have to compromise a bit and find a way to fit him in somehow when they eventually replace him.
